Sunday 9/9/01

Someone stole my Sunday Chronicle again this morning. Went down to grab it at 11:15 AM - too late for redelivery service. Just becasue I sleep in a little does not give anyone the right to steal my paper. Ended up buying one on Haight Street at the store near Masonic. The smiley guy behind the counter says "How was your morning?". I replied "Its still good!". He said "I have a headache. Need more sleep. Stayed up too late last night. Life is like that sometimes, you push it to the limit." I smiled and said "Thanks, hope you feel better."

Ate at All You Knead, a place I rarely go.

Thought more about Jennifer leaving for 7 months. I'll miss her. Thinking of taking her out to Doidge's for breakfast as send-off. Oppps, they closed last month? Damn! And gotta remember to give her a dollar to give to some poor homeless soul on her travels. She said its a Jewish tradition. Forces the recipient to do a mitzvah and helps ensure a safe journey. Nice thought.

Need to scour the job-listings today - and send out resumes! And just relax around the house. Maybe a hike up and around Buena Vista Park too.

Need to go to the grocery store - down to condiments and 2 cans of Coke.

Maybe hang with Pauline a bit too!

"Pauline"

Songs On My Mind

Some random lines of note:

Now I didn't have no plans to live this kind of life
It just worked out that way.

- John Hiatt

Lotta water under the bridge, lotta other stuff too.

- Bob Dylan

Haight Street Moment

I had a Haight Street Moment the other day. A grungey looking dude (circa 1991) is walking down the street at a brisk pace. He's singing into a white plastic resaurant bucket and pounding out a rhythm. "I love repetetive music" he sings over and over and over again. Every single person within earshot at least smiled, many broke into laughter, giggles, chuckles, etc. People were smiling and talking about it. Very funny. Makes me laugh every time I remember it. The Haight Street Fair lasts all year long!

I Eat Out All the Time!

Here's a list of my favorites - the places I've gone to the most this year...

Brothers Korean BBQ - Incredible, but crowded. If so I go to the other one...
Brothers 2 Korean BBQ - Just as incredible, less crowded and the owner is so nice!

Pluto's Fresh Food for a Hungry Universe - good food - salads and sandwiches

Bill's Place - I always get the Paul Kantner burger - grilled onions, cheese and russian dressing.

Mel's - great burgers, shakes and oinion rings

Atlas Cafe - I always get the grilled Cuban beef sandwich and a salad. Good coffee and good root beer too!

Gaspare's - good down home Italian.

Okina Sushi - incredible big fresh cuts - a one man shop.

Asqew Grill - A Haight Street joint - cheap and healthy

People's Cafe - for a great cuppa-joe.

Neecha Thai - great veggie dishes

Sam Woh - the best little dirty, greasy Chinese joint in the world. Check out the dumb waiter.

Andy's - My main Chinese take-out place...

Samila Thai - great take-out - get the BBQ Chicken!

Mr. Pizza Man - great 24 hour delivery and not just pizza

Ton Kiang - the BEST Dim Sum around. I go at least once a week.

The Pork Store - great breakfast on Haight Street with excellent people-watching. Too crowded on weekends.

Pakwan - for yummy Indian and Pakistani food at a good price

Indian Oven - Also great Indian food in the lower Haight.

Tommy's Mexican - on Geary is a really great neighborhood joint.

Tommy's Joynt - on Geary and Van Ness is a classic.

Java Beach - good coffee by the beach

King of Thai - good noodles and such on Clement Street!

Izzy's Steakhouse - another classic joint.

McDonald's - what can I say?

Starting NOW!

I'm fascinated with this self-publishing stuff.

Not that I think I have anything to say. I might if I work at it.

The tools are kind of cool. Still kind of primitive, but cool.

You can see where things are headed. Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.

Well, here it is. My new weblog powered by Blogger.com.

September and no job in sight. Starting to get very motivated! Could be a good thing despite my dwindling savings. Time to get clever, creative and generally intense.

Went to SFMOMA this afternoon with Lisa. Saw the entire museum! Kind of pooped. Will go back to see more of the UltraBaroque exhibit.

Lots of great art on exhibit in the City right now:

Tons of great stuff at SFMOMA

Beautiful Henry Moore sculpture at Califorina Palace of the Legion of Honor

Incredible Japanese photography and a lovely exhibit of paintings and photographs of Consuelo Kanaga at the Ansel Adams Gallery One of the best things about the Ansel Adams Gallery (run the an organization called San Francisco Friends of Photography) is the beautiful bookstore. Great selection of photography books.

REMEMBER:
Sometimes your mind can be so open that your brain falls out!

Article on an interesting TV show on art.

Last night I watched movies and had Thai food with Jennifer, soon to be gone traveling the world for 7 months.

Watched Dangerous Liaisons and The Spanish Prisoner.
